SUMMARY:Wildflower Walk
DESCRIPTION:Muralt Bluff SNA hike hosted by the prairie enthusiasts – Prairie Bluff Chapter.  4 miles west of Albany.  Muralt Bluff prairie parking area. \nMid-May is a wonderful time to visit Muralt Bluff State Natural Area. The western-facing bluff will be alive with wildflowers such as bird’s foot violets\, shooting stars\, plus other species. \nCome enjoy the flowers\, the amazing vista\, the fresh air up on the bluff. We’ll talk about the geology of the site\, and management that brought this prairie remnant back to glory. For this walk\, we will focus specifically on restoration of the bluff area. \nModerate hiking ability: We will follow an easy footpath to visit wildflowers at the base of the bluff. Then we will climb one steep path to view the top of the bluff. Bring a walking stick or use one that we provide. \nFor those interested\, we will also visit adjacent Iltis Savanna\, to view the oak savanna following prescribed burn this spring. \nFrom Albany\, go west on State Highway 59 for 2 miles\, then north and west on County Highway F for 1.8 miles\, then south for 0.1 miles on an access lane to a small parking area. Look for the State Natural Area sign. For the DNR-owned land: from Albany\, go west on State Highway 59 3.7 miles to a DNR parking area north of the road. \nContact Beth Kazmar at csa@tipiproduce.com with any questions
