DESCRIPTION:Wendell Arneson:  A Place in Time \n\nWendell Arneson is a painter and mixed media artist.  “My work draws from an inventory of images that make multiple\, yet varied references allowing content to shuffle\, reinvent and remake itself.  Painting inhabits a place between the known and the unknown.  Art\, for me\, does not provide answers\, but provokes questions and seeks possibilities.  As an image-maker\, I am interested in the intersection of figuration and abstraction.  In the process of making I discover resolution by seeking clarity of an idea while honoring mystery and ambiguity.” \nWendell Arneson is a Wisconsin native\, earning a BA in studio art from Luther College\, Decorah\, Iowa and a MFA from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green\, Ohio.   Post-graduate studies include classes with Nathan Oliveira and Gregory Amenoff at the Santa Fe Institute of Fine Arts.  Arneson has exhibited widely regionally and nationally and his work is featured in numerous private\, public and corporate collections. \nArneson was appointed to the faculty of St. Olaf College in Northfield\, Minnesota in 1978 where he holds the position as a Professor Emeritus of Art. \n\n\nA PLACE IN TIME\nI am interested in work that inhabits in both objective and non-objective worlds. I am attracted to both gestures and non-descriptive marks as well as the power and ambiguity of symbols and images. Painting and mixed media drawing inhabits a place between the known and the unknown. \nThe work of this exhibit draws from an inventory of land images that make multiple yet varied references that allow for content to shuffle\, reinvent\, and remake itself. As an image maker\, I seek the intersection between figuration and abstraction.  Art\, for me\, does not provide answers but rather provokes questions and seeks possibilities. \nThis exhibition of abstract land paintings reference time\, place\, and memory.  The images may honor specific locations while also seeking\, through abstraction\, multiple layers of entrance and ambiguity for the viewer.  The images in the paintings are imaginatively less certain and provide a visual journey of transformation.  What matters most is a painterly dialogue between image\, structure\, color\, tactile surface\, and space.  The end result evokes a journey of discovery and imagining. \n“Seek clarity while honoring mystery and ambiguity” \n-Wendell H. We are less connected to the land than ever before due to increased screen time and more indoor activities. Urbanization has left us with fewer green spaces. This lack of exposure to the natural environment can result in our feeling disconnected not just from the land\, but also ourselves and others.– We will explore and connect with the different habitats at Three Waters Reserve with all our senses through forest bathing led by Kate Bast. We will ground ourselves and then create a mandala as a group using materials we find on the ground.\nOctober 18\, 2025\, 10:00am-1:00pmFall Session: “A Multi-Sensory Experience in Nature”– Feel where you and nature connect. Using sight\, hearing\, smell\, touch\, and even taste\, we will explore Three Waters Reserve.– We’ll start indoors listening to solfeggio tones (tones that are believed to have healing and spiritual properties). We’ll move onto discussing how scents can bring up powerful memories. Outdoors\, we will notice various colors as the leaves change\, touch plants\, and end with our sense of taste in a unique tea ceremony led by Kate Bast.\nFebruary 2026\, date TBDWinter Session: “Discovering New Meaning in Your Stories of Nature”– Without story\, it is impossible to define our identity\, meaning\, and purpose. Yet\, we can’t always see ourselves\, let alone meaning\, in our stories. By sharing them with others and allowing them to find amazement and even awe\, we feel seen and heard. We can better understand who we are and the world we live in by exploring them.– Each participant will share a brief story and then allow others to interpret it\, connecting you and the land in a sacred way.

SUMMARY:Exhibit at MAC - A Place in Time
DESCRIPTION:Wendell Arneson:  A Place in Time \n\nWendell Arneson is a painter and mixed media artist.  “My work draws from an inventory of images that make multiple\, yet varied references allowing content to shuffle\, reinvent and remake itself.  Painting inhabits a place between the known and the unknown.  Art\, for me\, does not provide answers\, but provokes questions and seeks possibilities.  As an image-maker\, I am interested in the intersection of figuration and abstraction.  In the process of making I discover resolution by seeking clarity of an idea while honoring mystery and ambiguity.” \nWendell Arneson is a Wisconsin native\, earning a BA in studio art from Luther College\, Decorah\, Iowa and a MFA from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green\, Ohio.   Post-graduate studies include classes with Nathan Oliveira and Gregory Amenoff at the Santa Fe Institute of Fine Arts.  Arneson has exhibited widely regionally and nationally and his work is featured in numerous private\, public and corporate collections. \nArneson was appointed to the faculty of St. Olaf College in Northfield\, Minnesota in 1978 where he holds the position as a Professor Emeritus of Art. \n\n\nA PLACE IN TIME\nI am interested in work that inhabits in both objective and non-objective worlds. I am attracted to both gestures and non-descriptive marks as well as the power and ambiguity of symbols and images. Painting and mixed media drawing inhabits a place between the known and the unknown. \nThe work of this exhibit draws from an inventory of land images that make multiple yet varied references that allow for content to shuffle\, reinvent\, and remake itself. As an image maker\, I seek the intersection between figuration and abstraction.  Art\, for me\, does not provide answers but rather provokes questions and seeks possibilities. \nThis exhibition of abstract land paintings reference time\, place\, and memory.  The images may honor specific locations while also seeking\, through abstraction\, multiple layers of entrance and ambiguity for the viewer.  The images in the paintings are imaginatively less certain and provide a visual journey of transformation.  What matters most is a painterly dialogue between image\, structure\, color\, tactile surface\, and space.  The end result evokes a journey of discovery and imagining. \n“Seek clarity while honoring mystery and ambiguity” \n-Wendell H.
