SUMMARY:Exhibit: Wild Things
DESCRIPTION:Metal sculpture artist David Groenjes creates one of a kind sculptures using recycled and reclaimed metal and materials.  His art has a strong emphasis on wildlife and the natural world\, continually inspired by his own past adventures\, and those not yet pursued.  Elements of his art are designed to give the illusion of texture\, movement\, and form\, without being too literal.  Sustainably sourced components are the heart of every sculpture. \nDavid has loved art in many forms\, recalling saying at a young age “I want to be an artist when I grow up” not really knowing where that would go.  Growing up in the Midwest he surrounded himself with nature whenever possible. He later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resource Conservation and worked for the US Fish & Wildlife Service white attending College.  A professional career in the Auto Repair industry gave him additional skills he needed to pursue his art.  Moving out of the city and into rural Wisconsin in 2015 provided a new view on life.  A few short years later David started producing sculpture at a consistent pace and has not looked back since.  David has collectors from around the globe.  He has had work published in multiple periodical publications as well as podcast and Television Network features. \nSo much of the beauty that surrounds us everyday is lost to the hurried pace of our lives.  Through his art David strives to inspire the creative thoughts we have been missing\, to remind us of the beauty of our natural world\, and to create a heightened appreciation of wildlife and our natural resources.

SUMMARY:Exhibit at MAC - Animal Antics
DESCRIPTION:Rebecca Gavney Driscoll:  Animal Antics \nRebecca Gavney Driscoll is a native of Janesville\, WI but spent much of her childhood in Beloit Township before returning to Janesville. Rebecca had her first “solo” art show in second grade. She went to Beloit Turner High school and graduated in 1979. After high school\, she earned an Associate of Art degree through the UW system. She has been illustrating for thirty plus years and has enjoyed developing her skills through various projects. \n\n\nShe has also illustrated four children’s books (three picture books and one chapter book) and an extensive variety of greeting cards. \nShe is now working on her own card line which comprises intricate designs of trees and flowers\, reflecting her love of nature. She’s also experimenting with cards that ‘tell a story’ with a painted scene on the outside of a card\, and a deeper interior ‘peek’ within that scene on the inside. Her favorite medium is watercolor. Rebecca has been to numerous art shows and has received awards for “Best of Show”\, “Judge’s Choice award” and 2nd place in Horicon Art on the Marsh.

SUMMARY:Wool Spinning Demo at Monticello Museum
DESCRIPTION:Kris (Riese) Peterson will demonstrate spinning wool at the Monticello Area Historical Society Museum. Kris\, the daughter of Ed & Donna Riese\, graduated from Monticello HS in 1976. She has a BFA in theater from UW-La Crosse and an MFA in Costume and Technology from Florida State University. \nKris states her first brush with spinning wool was as a child going by the old Woolen Mill every day on her way to town. “I heard a lot of the stories and had ancestors that worked at the mill like many others in the area.” She relates; the first person she saw at a wheel was at the Rock River Thresheree. “There was a lady that came every year who spun dog hair. I fell in love with the mesmerizing motion of the wheel and her hands drawing the fiber and how it formed yarn.” \nKris did not get into spinning until adulthood\, when it came up in a graduate fiber class. That she states\, “really lit the fire!” She saw an online ad for a spinning wheel for sale at a decent price and bought it. “I have learned to process\, prep\, spin\, ply\, and dye fibers of many kinds…It’s my happy place!” \nKris will have samples of assorted fibers and hand tools to touch\, try\, and compare. \nThe Monticello Area Historical Museum is open Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm and admission is free.
