SUMMARY:Wool Spinning Demo at Monticello Museum
DESCRIPTION:Kris (Riese) Peterson will demonstrate spinning wool at the Monticello Area Historical Society Museum. Kris\, the daughter of Ed & Donna Riese\, graduated from Monticello HS in 1976. She has a BFA in theater from UW-La Crosse and an MFA in Costume and Technology from Florida State University. \nKris states her first brush with spinning wool was as a child going by the old Woolen Mill every day on her way to town. “I heard a lot of the stories and had ancestors that worked at the mill like many others in the area.” She relates; the first person she saw at a wheel was at the Rock River Thresheree. “There was a lady that came every year who spun dog hair. I fell in love with the mesmerizing motion of the wheel and her hands drawing the fiber and how it formed yarn.” \nKris did not get into spinning until adulthood\, when it came up in a graduate fiber class. That she states\, “really lit the fire!” She saw an online ad for a spinning wheel for sale at a decent price and bought it. “I have learned to process\, prep\, spin\, ply\, and dye fibers of many kinds…It’s my happy place!” \nKris will have samples of assorted fibers and hand tools to touch\, try\, and compare. \nThe Monticello Area Historical Museum is open Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm and admission is free.

SUMMARY:Joseph Huber Band at MAC
DESCRIPTION:Joseph Huber hails from the state of Wisconsin\, and seems to bring forth the varied voices of whatever it may be that lies dormant within either the fertile soil or the callous concrete of that world. It has been said\, “You don’t just like Joseph Huber’s music. You feel it’s something that the rest of the world needs to hear\, and how criminal it is that it isn’t spreading far and wide.” That sentiment could be related to the fact that the voices which Huber unearths are subtle and take more than a hurried listen to truly absorb. \nA person who appears reserved and matter-of-fact in everyday speech brings forth songs that are anything but that. Whether it’s irresistible\, fiddle-driven\, dancing tunes or honest\, heart-wrenching “songwriter” songs\, Huber’s songs and shows spans the spectrum of ‘Roots’ music while preferring not to stay within boundaries of any strict genre classification.

SUMMARY:Exhibit at MAC - Animal Antics
DESCRIPTION:Rebecca Gavney Driscoll:  Animal Antics \nRebecca Gavney Driscoll is a native of Janesville\, WI but spent much of her childhood in Beloit Township before returning to Janesville. Rebecca had her first “solo” art show in second grade. She went to Beloit Turner High school and graduated in 1979. After high school\, she earned an Associate of Art degree through the UW system. She has been illustrating for thirty plus years and has enjoyed developing her skills through various projects. \n\n\nShe has also illustrated four children’s books (three picture books and one chapter book) and an extensive variety of greeting cards. \nShe is now working on her own card line which comprises intricate designs of trees and flowers\, reflecting her love of nature. She’s also experimenting with cards that ‘tell a story’ with a painted scene on the outside of a card\, and a deeper interior ‘peek’ within that scene on the inside. Her favorite medium is watercolor. Rebecca has been to numerous art shows and has received awards for “Best of Show”\, “Judge’s Choice award” and 2nd place in Horicon Art on the Marsh.
