Painting the Midwest (Exhibit)

The artwork of watercolor artist Michael Broshar will be on exhibit in the Monroe Arts Center's Wellington Gallery from April 23, 2021 through June 25, 2021. Broshar is a visual artist based in Dubuque, Iowa. He has always been intrigued by watercolors, but it wasn't until 2013 that he began painting watercolors in earnest. Prior to that time, his focus had been on digital art. Broshar states, "Places I have visited are my favorite subjects for paintings, as the paintings create an indelible memory of those locations. During 2020 and 21, when most of these paintings were created, we were limited in traveling due to COVID. As a result, the subjects for the exhibition at the Monroe Arts Center are primarily based on the places I have visited in Iowa and surrounding states that I could visit on a day trip." He continues, "My intention in painting is not to create a photo realistic image of a scene, but rather to create an impressionist image."
