A Christmas Carol: Monroe Theatre Guild

December 13 @ 7:00 PM

Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol has been an inspirational story since it was first published in 1843 as A Christmas Carol – In Prose – Being a Ghost Story of Christmas

Over the last 181 years, it has been told on stage, on television, and in movies. This Christmas season, MTG invites you to its production of A Christmas Carol, brought to the stage via an original adaptation written by the director, Joe Leverton.
While the majority of the elements will be familiar, there will be some noticeable differences. This adaptation utilizes source material that is seldom (if ever) used in other versions and interwoven with original elements. The theatre patron will see a younger Ebenezer Scrooge (somewhere in his mid-forties to early fifties) that is closer to the likely age of Ebenezer in the book. (His exact age is never mentioned.)

The traditional role of other characters will be expanded, while a few new characters will add depth to this beloved classic.  The heart of the tale will continue to reside in the story of a seemingly cold-hearted miser and will explore who he once was, who he has become, and who he may yet be.   The exploration of his life journey will hopefully inspire us all to be mindful to be good to everyone.
