FESTIVALS

One of the best ways to sample Green County's heritage and sense of place is by attending one of our many colorful festivals. Each city and village has a celebration to share with you.

New Glarus, an historic Swiss colony settled 150 years ago, showcases its history, clothing, customs, foods, and language with a rich assortment of heritage-drenched festivals all four seasons of the year. All the Swiss history and drama you'd expect are here: The Wilhelm Tell Drama (in both English and German) has been a Labor Day tradition since 1938; Heidi Fest, of course; Volksfest, celebrating Swiss Independence Day; Polkafest; Octoberfest and more.

Monroe, famous as the "Specialty Cheese Capital of the USA," hosts its famed Green County Cheese Days in even-numbered years. Cheese Days highlights the production of foreign-type cheeses and the importance the cheese industry has had and continues to have on Green County and Wisconsin.

Albany has its Yesteryear Celebration; Brodhead hosts Covered Bridge Days, Monticello offers Homecoming, the whimsical UFO Day is in Belleville, Depot Days in Brooklyn, Browntown plans for Summerfest, and Monroe offers a colorful Balloon Rally, Chili Cook-off, and a delightful Christmas parade.

To celebrate the county's agricultural heritage, come enjoy an authentic County Fair, or Breakfast on the Farm when thousands of visitors come to sample "real food on a real farm."
