Soil Sisters

Celebrating local agriculture at small farms led by women committed to healthy, fresh futures with workshops, items for sale (fresh produce, meats, eggs, crafts), and ticketed culinary events. Friday "Taste of Place" farm-to-table event; Saturday "Dinner on the Farm"; Sunday farm tours in Brodhead & Monroe areas.

FRIDAY, August 5

Come savor and sample a variety of seasonal specialties at the women-owned Cow & Quince Restaurant, a local food restaurant in New Glarus showcasing the farm bounty of the area.  Taste of Place is a unique and tasty gathering where you can try out a variety of flavors and meet and greet some of the farmers and food artisans behind the ingredient list.  This casual and flavorful kick-off reception to the SOIL SISTERS weekend will treat you to several food stations to sample in-season local specialties, topped off with root beer floats made with local soda and homemade ice cream!  Come meet some Soil Sisters who will be on hand to answer questions about their products and farms.  For this special SOIL SISTERS menu, Chefs Jared Austin and Nate Pranke of Cow & Quince along with guest chef and Soil Sister Kris Slater will be creating a special menu featuring ingredients raised by the Soil Sisters themselves, such as Lindsey Morris Carpenter of Grassroots Farm, Dela Ends of Scotch Hill Farm, Kriss Marion of Circle M Market Farm and LeAnn Powers of Lucky Dog Farm, Anna Landmark, cheesemaker at Landmark Creamery, and more!  Ticketed event.

SATURDAY, August 6

Pack up your picnic basket with your blanket, plates and silverware and join us for a summer afternoon on the farm to savor a delicious farm-to-table meal served "picnic-style" at Sandhill Family Farms. Adults will be greeted with locally brewed beer! Join the farm tour to see how your food is grown at this year-round diversified CSA operation. Sandhill Family Farms supplies more than 600 Chicago-area families with weekly deliveries of fresh produce, eggs, meat and dairy products.  After the tour, spend the afternoon sharing a tasty meal with your friends and family while listening to live music from a farm band. End the celebration with a sunset bonfire and conversation with a community of like-minded, adventurous eaters. All ages are welcome at the farm dinners and kids under 10 eat for free! Ticketed event.

FRIDAY & SATURDAY, August 5 - 6 (9 AM - 3 PM)

Green Acres Workshops - Various locations - Experience farm livin'.  Women-owned and co-owned farmers don their farm hats, fancy up their place and invite you to participate in numerous fun, hands-on and educational SOIL SISTERS: Green Acres workshops on their farms.   Learn a new skill like fermenting vegetables or baking, join a yoga session, go on a hayride or craft your own barn board art.  Ticketed events at various rates.

SUNDAY, August 7 (11 AM - 6 PM)
Celebrate local agriculture by visiting small family farms led by Wisconsin women committed to a healthy, fresh future for our communities. From tomatoes to pickles, sheep to solar energy, farmstay bed & breakfasts to beef – these farms on the tour offer a unique diversity of farm experiences showcasing the summer’s bounty in one afternoon.  Farmstands are open at many farms, with eggs, fresh produce, cut flowers and hand-crafted items available.  So bring your coolers to stock up.  Farms will be leading tours throughout the day.  Free event.
