What does "A Sense of Place" mean? I take the meaning to be an emotional and intellectual attachment to a locale or region. Wisconsin's beauty evokes such attachments for many people. Photographers of the caliber in this exhibition, however, can transform our understanding of and feeling for this landscape. Each photographer here seeks out places to express what photographer Rhondal McKinney has called "a thirst for the look of it." Engaged in their own exploration they show us how to see a place anew. With time and patience, each of us can fully appreciate the subtle beauty of their efforts. -Gary Cialdella, Curator
