This play was adapted for the stage by Peter DeLaurier, and is directed by local director Katie McIlvanie. Synopsis: Aging brother and sister, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, send to an orphanage for a boy to help on the farm. To everyone's surprise, a mix up brings them romantic, hot-headed, and energetic 11-year old Anne Shirley. Over the course of six years she wins their hearts and turns the stodgy, rural Canadian community into a bright world of "kindred spririts". Ticket prices range from $11 - $17

10 Grand in your Hand (5th annual event)

A benefit for Family Promise of Green County. Tickets are $100 but only 250 will be sold. Tickets include drinks and food for two. Tickets will be drawn through out the evening with every tenth ticket winning a prize worth at least $100. The final ticket drawn will win $10,000 - unless the last 4,3, or 2 ticket holders all decide to split the prize. Need not be present to win. The annual Ice Cream Social will be held on Thursday, June 13th, from 4 PM to 6:30 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, 1025 15th Ave., Monroe. They will be serving BBQ and ham sandwiches, potato salad, homemade fruit pie, and ice cream. Ala Carte available. All proceeds will go towards door and window replacement for the church Sunday School/Monroe Preschool Wing. Carry-outs available are available. Handicap accessible.

Monroe Balloon and Blues Festival

Hot Air. Hot Blues. Cool Brews! 

Launches are planned for 6 pm on both days plus Saturday morning at 6 am, with flights patterns following the prevailing gentle winds over the Green County countryside. When the propane runs low, pilots keep an eye out for open fields to land; providing a spectacle for the onlookers and photographers that follow the flights from the ground. Always a favorite, evening "balloon glows" are planned for 8:30 pm on both Friday and Saturday.

But the weekend just keeps getting better with a great lineup of live bands.

After the sun goes down the pilots will fire up their tethered balloons to provide a scenic backdrop for more music. Fest organizers are maximizing the entertainment value by locating the stage nearby the balloon glow so attendees can enjoy both at once. Spend the evening; food and beer will be available.

Also on Saturday is the Cruise In Car Show and fun and games for the kids.

The 2019 Monroe Balloon and Blues Festival is presented by Arc of Green County, an organization providing funding for area handicapped and disabled individuals. 

Admission to the Green County Fairgrounds (2600 - 10th St.) is free, with parking onsite for a nominal fee. Free street parking is also available.

More than just a fundraising event, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life offers our community a way to celebrate cancer survivorship, remember loved ones lost and fight back against a disease that takes too much from too many. The Monroe Arts Center is pleased to invite everyone to the new Summer of Music concert series - 4th Wednesday of May, June, and July beginning at 6:00 PM each evening on the south porch of the MAC campus. All concerts are free of charge. Tonight's feature: "Small Potatoes" a Chicago based folk duo with a repertoire described as "Celtic to Cowboy." Superb musicianship and showmanship, award-winning songwriting, and a strong sense of tradition has made them a must-see summer concert. Then experience the extraordinary culture and traditional music of Mexico with Grupo La Septima Allianza on July 24th. All concerts are rain or shine.

Heidi Folk Festival

The Heidi Play tells the classic story of an orphaned Swiss girl who manages her struggles with warmth and charm, making friends and family along the way. This timeless classic will entertain you, even if you already know the story by heart. And then it becomes even more engaging with the addition of live goats and kittens! The proceeds generated are used for scholarships, helping local students further their education. Rain or shine, the play will be held in the comfortable, climate-controlled high school auditorium at 1701 2nd Street, New Glarus.
