This exhibit by Jean Sandrock continues through June 24. For Middleton, Wisconsin artist Jean Sandrock, art has been a passion throughout her life as an illustrator in pen and ink, a calligrapher, and for the past twelve years, a collage artist using papers from around the world. Her current work takes inspiration from beautiful textural papers. Creating layers of texture using embellishments and fibers, she creates art works as she paints with paper. The tactile quality of her work causes viewers to wonder if the art pieces are fabric. The beauty of the color and texture of each paper used becomes the focal point in her work.

Green - by Suzanne Miller and Nikki Cooper

MAC Galleries at Monroe Clinic - The Monroe Arts Center and Monroe Clinic have partnered to provide patients, visitors, and staff with quarterly exhibitions in four gallery spaces in the new Clinic building. This is not only an enrichment of the visual experience thus creating a healthier environment, but these exhibitions bring local artists and the community together. This exhibit features the work of local artists Suzanne Miller and Nikki Cooper of Green Chicks Studio in downtown Monroe. For them, the word "green" has many connotations. Each piece of dimensional wall art is made from about 90% recycled materials. Many of their whimsical designs revolve around animals and nature; thus incorporating shades of green into the color pallette.

Lester O. Schwartz was born on June 29, 1912 after his parents immigrated to America in the early 1900s. He grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, where he found his interest in creating sculptural designs from his father's scrap-yard. In his early years he worked on cartooning and he received a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago to study commercial art. After four successful years of studying art at the Art Institute of Chicago, he qualified for a fellowship to travel around the world for two and a half years including studying in Paris where he met Pablo Picasso. After teaching at the Art Institute and studying in the Far East on a fellowship, Schwartz became Artist-in-Residence at Ripon College in 1944. The school allowed him to renovate a fraternity house, which gave him the opportunity to paint without any restrictions except teaching, for four hours a day. Schwartz exhibited at the 34th Annual Exhibition at the Milwaukee Art Institute in 1937. Schwartz was renowned for his work in his own state and he won many prizes and awards. Opening Reception Friday, June 3 from 5 - 7 pm.
