| State Parks |
We invite our guests to "kick back," slow down, commune with nature, recharge and regroup. An excellent place to do just that is in one of our state parks. They're a great place for families to play, recreate, and get reacquainted in today's fast-paced world. Watchable wildlife, nature trails, rare flora, camping (New Glarus Woods), biking, snowmobiling (Sugar River State Trail), and snowshoeing, set amid a scenic backdrop of history and heritage, combine to beckon our guests.

Browntown Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area
Highway 11 east of Browntown
608-966-3777
Park features a handicap accessible boat launch, nature trails with educational signs, beach area, shelter house, and a newly installed 78 foot pole with an osprey nesting platform on top. Friends of Cadiz Springs have also been busy with other recent activities, including plans to restock Beckman Lake with northern pike, clearing willow trees near the boat launch, and removing brush from the shore.
The DNR is reminding everyone not to "stock" Beckman Lake with fish caught in Zanders Lake or anywhere else. The DNR has plans to manage the proportions to keep the predator/prey balance, and to allow the existing fish to form a cycle of breeding that is self-perpetuating.
Meetings of the Friends of Cadiz Springs are held on the second Monday of every month at 6:30 pm at Trailside Inn in Browntown, or in warmer weather at the east shelter in the park.

New Glarus Woods State Park
Highway 69 south of New Glarus
608-527-2335
The New Glarus Woods State Park was established as a State Park in 1934. It is comprised of over 400 acres, which are predominately forest with approximately 80 acres of prairie. Because of its hilly terrain, most of the park was never logged, leaving many trees untouched, some of which are over 250 years old. Six trails wind throughout ranging from .2 miles to 4.2 miles, totaling 7.3 miles. There are 18 drive-in campsites and 14 walk-in sites along with 6 group sites available for groups of up to 25 people.
