Monroe Arts Center (MAC)
The Monroe Arts Center (MAC) occupies the Old Methodist Church and Parsonage, both on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1869 building is splendid example of American Gothic Revival and the 1887-built residence is a fine example of the Queen Anne style architecture.
The mission of the Monroe Arts Center is threefold: to nurture an appreciation for the arts, to aid individual creative development, and to ensure the preservation and integrity of our historic facility.
In its fourth decade, MAC presents a twelve-month season in both the performing and visual arts. MAC offers a diverse program in the performing arts at the MAC Concert Hall, the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center (PAC), and the Middle School Auditorium. There is a PAC Performance Series, MAC Performances Series, Summer Concert Series, Sunday Classical Music Series, and a Writers Series. Special performances are also offered. MAC's Performances in the School Program annually offers live professional performances in music, dance, and theater to every student in Green County.
The Visual Arts Program consists of exhibitions throughout the year with exhibitions running simultaneously in the Frehner Gallery and Wesley Hall three times a year. MAC mounts a quarterly exhibit at the Monroe Clinic and Hospital. Artists with local, state, and national reputations show in MAC's Visual Arts Program. Each exhibition has an opening reception and a talk by the artist.
MAC's community events are widely anticipated including the Holiday Concert, Bel Canto Singers, A Christmas Carol, Community Showcase of Talent and Radio Show, Underwriters Preview Party, and A Taste of Spring. In addition, there are special seminars and workshops.
Upwards of 12,000 people annually participate in MAC programs and events. MAC's events and activities and those by other organizations and individuals held in MAC facilities total over 250 events and activities each year.
